Briar Castor

This overgrown bean plant took me days to finish. Days!

Relationship Status: Single

Personality: Sly, thoughtful, arrogant, hedonistic, and patient. Spending so much time in the forest has honed Castor's ability to wait patiently for rain, other plants to grow, and underlings to carry out their orders.

Mannerisms: He tends to be formal and tries to act as regal as possible so that he can live up to the title of Briar. He does, however, occasionally "unbriar-like" moments where he gives in to hubris.

Native Planet: Whoenoe

Current Planet: Earth

Weapons/Methods:

Method 1: Snare prey in brambles. Wait until death by dehydration or bleeding out. Lowest amount of energy spent

Method 2: Snare prey in brambles, choke life out of victim. Higher energy spent

Method 3: Grab prey with roots and smash around environment. Keep doing so until death. Likely used out of anger

Method 4: Plant seeds in/on victim. Wait for death by toxins from ingestion or will seedlings to grow at best time. Chaos ensues

Other Abilities:

Dormant: withdraws into ground. Usually done to avoid unnecessary danger or harsh winters

Summon brambles: a whole garden’s worth of thorny, prickly bushes springs from the ground. Can be used as a trap or a barrier

Backups: produces seeds that can be planted up to one hundred feet underground. Several of these are planted in many places by unsuspecting humans. These are dormant until the original Castor dies

Sensory information: Roots can stretch around underground and "talk" to surrounding plants for information about their environment. His roots also feel vibrations from the surface if they aren't too deep, and can easily detect the distinct walking patterns of humans and other creatures.

Water storage: In his stems and roots, Castor is able to extract water from the ground and can purify it. He's capable of bringing up a swollen root and leak from tiny pores to offer clean water to other organisms.

Backstory:

Even plant monsters start off small. As a seedling, Castor stowed away on a human colonist’s shirt when they left Whoenoe to visit relatives on Earth. The human was unaware he had a small seed stuck to him and carried it over to his parents’ house near the woods, where it detached and followed the breeze to a suitable spot in the forest. Soon enough, Castor grew to full size within a year from the soil’s favourable conditions.

People started to go missing from going into the forest. Several search parties would turn up with either nothing or partial remains of the missing with no signs of what killed the victims. Stranger still, the people that go missing were mostly adults – children that go into the woods tend to come out unharmed babbling about a plant man that pointed them in the right direction.

Briar Castor is hard to kill, but not impossible. He is highly susceptible to fire and can easily be destroyed by it. However, most people do not know about the many seeds he’s planted to ensure he’s never completely gone.

Possible Death:

Oenothra (imnurhest.deviantart.com/art/O… ) discovered that Castor has set up on Earth for decades. Enraged that one of her creations was upsetting Earth's flora and fauna, she rushed over to rectify the situation. At first, Castor was thrilled to meet his goddess, but she met him with righteous fury, plucking him from the ground and inflicting rot upon him to kill. He and every seed he's ever produced rotted into dust, never to be alive again. With that, she took his ashes with her back to Whoenoe and mixed it into the soil of his relatives so that they may do well, warning them never to hitch a ride to another planet again.
